Ernie Acevedo, started playing Congas at the very young age of nine years old. His father, Rosario Acevedo, taught him how to play Tumbao on an old wooden Conga. While his dad played guitar, Ernie accompanied him on songs like “Guantanamera”. He went on to perform with local neighborhood bands from the age of 10 through his early teens. His uncle, Jason Youvert, who performed with a few professional salsa groups, taught him to play piano and bass. Ernie studied at Johnny Colón School of Music and Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. He got his first big break with Ralphy Santi in the late 70’s. He began to travel and perform all over with the likes of Héctor Casanova, Santiago Ceron, Oscar De’Leon, Jose Fajardo, Larry Harlow, Hector Lavoe, Johnny Pacheco, Pete “El Conde” Rodriguez, the late Daniel Santos, Roberto Torres, Angelo Vaillant and many others. In the mid 80’s Ernie was an endorser for Martin Cohen, Latin Percussion. On May 21, 1989, Ernie decided to pursue a career as bandleader and formed a Puerto Rican Salsa band called Conjunto Imagen with co-partners Luis “Campana” Hernandez and Jose Junior Rivera, and later joined by Angelo Gonzalez, as musical Director in 1990. They performed in every night club in NYC and traveled around the world. Conjunto Imagen recorded three productions under the J amp; N Records Sony label titled, “Tumba, Tresy Bongo”, “Te Invita a Bailar” and “Mi Rumba”. The next six productions were recorded under the Platano Record Universal label, titled “Algo Nuevo”, “Por Amor a ti”, “Encuentro Especial”, “Imagen 97”, “Entrando al Milenio”, and “Contra la Fuerza” with guest artist, Eddie Zervigon, Flautist. They also released a Christmas CD titled “Christmas with Imagen” with guest artists, José Fajardo, Flautist and Yomo Toro, Cuartista. In 2004, Conjunto Imagen released “Ayer, Hoy y Mañana” under their own record label Muziq, Inc. Records with the vocal talents of Jesús Serrano, Eddie Rosado and guest artist Dave Valentine, Flautist. In 2009, they released their CD "Afinando 20th anniversary”, with vocalists, Eddie Rosado, Johnny Ortiz, Alex Rodríguez and guest singer, Tito Allen. Followed by another production titled “Los Intocables”, with lead vocalists, Johnny Ortiz, Alex Rodriguez and their newest member from Cali, Colombia, Franklin Corrales with guest vocalist, Frankie Vasquez on “Que Pana “. Conjunto Imagen is launching their new production titled “Conjunto Imagen 30th anniversary” With guest artist such as Domingo Quiñones, Frankie Morales, Miosotis, Toby Rivera, Jenny Colon, Chuti Serrano, Sol, Liz Soto and their lead vocals, Johnny Ortiz, Alex Rodriguez and Franklin Corrales and special guest artist Gilberto Púlpo Colón, Jr, Pianist.
