I find it considerably hard to believe that children that were between 6-12 years old in 2003 enjoyed this game, but obviously I am highly incorrect. As someone who has never played this game before the remaster, let me explain why this game is terrible in my opinion.1. The mechanics are clunky. As I'm walking around Jellyfish Fields in the characters of either Spongebob or Patrick, I can't help but feel they are slow moving. I find myself mashing in the joystick expecting to sprint, but nothing happens. The characters just move incredibly slow. Rotating the camera also feels slow and delayed.2. Boss difficulty is not in synchronicity with the difficulty of the normal gameplay. I played through Jellyfish Fields, and once I made it to the Jellyfish King, I encountered multiple hurdles. First, I died several times before I realized you had to double-jump to avoid the shockwave he sends, and even then it was not always possible to avoid it. Another big issue is that the "hitbox" of the Jellyfish King was not always consistent. When I would swing the net, it would not always make contact with the Jellyfish King. Relating back to point 1, there were times when my character did not move fast enough to avoid the boss hurting my character.3. Tutorials are limited and don't explain things well. You have several of them, but they just don't really give the explanations I feel the game needs. You have to spend a significant amount of time practicing Trial-and-Error. This was definitely reminiscent for my childhood in the way that a lot of games back then were like that. I remember spending hours on Mario dying and starting from the beginning in trying to figure out how to progress through a specific level. Spongebob's bungee jumping is a perfect example. I spent 20 minutes on the Needlepoint jump, trying to break all of the tikis, and I could not master when to dive perfectly and hit them. It was not fun watching Spongebob bungee jump from his underwear for 20 minutes and hit absolutely nothing because the tikis kept moving at just the perfect rate to where I could not break them.4. This is related to performance. The performance is terribly optimized for the Switch. I was informed there should have been a hotfix/patch on Day 1, but here I am nearly a week later, and there is no change. If too many Tikis blow up at once, if three or more robots attack you at once, etc., then your frame rates drop dramatically. I can already tell the FPS is inconsistent as I will rotate the camera and can almost see the frames slowing. When inside of a building, such as Spongebob's house, the FPS is solid, but in any normal level where there are multiple items rendering, the FPS is inconsistent and choppy. This game also made my switch run incredibly hotter than I've felt it get with any other game.5. Graphics....I can tell they remastered this game from the ground up considering I've seen the original gameplay videos, but I'm going to be honest- I think I would have preferred some of the old graphics from 2003. Character animation in cut scenes seems to be of failing quality. While they don't stand still and make a loop of the same facial expressions like in the original game, it does seem like they took away some of the elements that make this "Spongeboby." Spongebob in the early 2000s was more subtle with adult undertones, but it seems they went with the more modern approach of Spongebob- direct and childish.Anti-Aliasing is awful as well. Every object rendered including characters, have awful jagged edges outlining them. Also, for a game in 2020, should there not be more vegetation and landscape quality? 17 years of technological advancement, and I feel there is more they could have done they just increase color and lighting quality (which I feel is all they really did here).Overall, if you love platformers and you enjoyed this game in your youth, then you just might like this game. But if you're like me, and you missed out but were hoping to find some new enjoyment from an old character of a TV show you enjoyed as a child, you might be disappointed. I preordered this game a month ago and had just got it in the mailI started playing it for a little while and noticed that some of the sound seemed a bit off but I shrugged it off and continued playingEverything was fine until I encountered a weird game breaking glitch on the downtown levelI don't know how I did it per say but apparently in the lighthouse I some how managed to break the game after the 3rd or 4th row of robots in which the screen went black but it still showed my healthAfter I tried to restart the game I noticed that it somehow managed to corrupt my saved data entirely making me start over again! Was not very happy about that but what I did play of it was pretty goodThis game was hyped big time. I played the original as a kid, and beat it, and to play this and to die, probably 12 times in jellyfish fields just to the 3rd robot variant, is disgusting. Having B and Y swapped didn’t make any sense and had no reason, the movement feels like spongebob and Patrick are wearing shoes and gloves made of iron. Some of the sound effects are boring compared to the original(see the spikes in the cave for the spelunking spatula). And the hit boxes of the player attacks is definitely very small, it feels like a block instead of the bubble feel the original has. And the various cut scenes for unlocking new areas were removed for no reason, giving the player no sense of accomplishment and no real feeling of major reward. The original game is something I have a place for. but this reboot, do not get this, wait a few months, hope for some updates to go up, and play a different nickelodeon game, if you have a wii or game cube, go buy a copy of fairlyodd parents for GameCube or maybe get jimmy neutron attack of the twonkies those games are good and will give you some time to wait till some updates can fix this game but for now. THIS GAME IS BROKEN AND SPONGE ATE A BRICK. If THQ ever sees these kinds of reviews, please, work on some updates to fix the button mapping, weight, jump height, and attack size for the playable characters. There are even sound effects missing from this. Which is unforgivable, if you are gonna hype up a reboot for a game that was so beloved, and make the reboot have the weight of tank controls and the platforming of mario, you are gonna need to make some updates that will take an hour to download. If this is what the spongebob game is, I fear, for Fairly odd parents shadow showdownThe game is amazing, the main issue I have is that I can't understand why majority of most games over 10 gigs you have to download like half of the files size on your switch. This one here had over 5 gigs. Why can't they put all data on physical copy? I understand patches, but when u insert card and have a huge download b4 u even play it, unreal. It's funny how p.s vita, 3ds, psp, ds, ect you never had this. And there are several large file size games on all of them. I think it's funny that all my download data goes on a micro sd card that is a fraction of the size, and some go up to 500 gigs now for switch. And the larger games we buy physically comes with mandatory downloads if you want all you pay for. This was my favorite game as a kid so I was excited when I heard it was being re-released. It’s true to the original game and still somewhat challenging as an adult though it’s for children. However, it’s not too hard so it’s relaxing as well - very low stress. I’d recommend for both kids and adults alike.A near perfect recreation to the orginal version from the visuals to gameplay. The only issues with the game is that it lags a bit at certain points, and the loading time taking long but it's only specifically on the switch version. My nitpick is some of the dialogue gets too repetitive too quickly for SpongeBob. It's a perfect game for those who played the orginal or like SpongeBob as a whole Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated - N
